No Suspects Named in Dews Death, Police Say

Authorities continuing to investigate Dews' 'suspicious' death in Pennsylvania.

Authorities have not named any suspects in the death of Gail Dews, a Wayne resident who was found at the bottom of a gorge in Pennsylvania.

Dews’ body was found at the base of a 92-foot gorge in Shohola Falls at about 9 a.m. Monday. She was 56. Police said Dews’ husband Stephen notified them his wife was missing Monday morning.

“We never had anyone in custody,” said Trooper Connie Devens, a public information officer with the Pennsylvania State Police. Published reports initially claimed authorities had a man in custody Monday.

“We’re continuing to investigate the incident as a suspicious death. We’re collecting every bit of evidence that we can.”

Devens said Dews’ family in New Jersey and individuals in Pennsylvania are being interviewed as part of the investigation. Dews’ husband and her daughter could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Pike County coroner Kevin Stroyan said Wednesday that Dews died from multiple blunt force traumas. The injuries, Stroyan said, appeared to have been caused by Dews’ fall to the bottom of the gorge.
