Mr Alfieri....in regards to last night's public portion of the WTC meeting, I want to sayn I appreciate your comments, concerns and passion yuo have for the environmental issues this town faces, or at leat should be facing. Other than offering some lip service at the conclusion of the public portion, I am not so sure I am convinced the council has done anything in regards to the Pompton Lakes issue. Now while I do consider my self a Republican, and over the years have voted that way, I have to say I am getting a little tired with how thin skinned many of the members of this council are that they are so easily offened by comments mmade during the public portion and have to go on rants afterwards telling us so. Starting with Councilman Mazzei's rant I am not so sure the point he was trying to make and ending with Purcell and Ryan. Of course none of the comments , as they never do, offer any thing of substance. Just how offended each one of the was by you. If the have nothing to say of substance I wish they wouldn't say anything at all.

Scondo, I hope you aren't 't suggesting we need a concrete barrier down the middle of Valley Rd? A town that struggles for a small town feel and wishes for a Main Street USA, Valley Rd is closest it has offer. Then again not how many Main Streets USA have a posted speed limit of 45mph with cars routinely traveling 60 mph. That with no shoulders, pedestrians, residences with driveways and cars trying to back out onto, schools and churches up and down. You want to know why you never see radar traps on this road, probably because with Town Hall smack dab in the middle the people to be nabbed would be our prestigious township officials. This road needs to have its sped limit dropped to 30mph and have it strictly enforced. It also should have its traffic pattern changed to single lanes each way with a center turning lane. That pattern has proven to work on Berdan Ave, Hamburg Tpke and Valley Rd extension.. No reason it couldn't work on the main section of Valley Rd. I understand this is a county road and I would hope Freeholder Bartlett recognizes how dangerous Valley Rd has become and uses his influence to make some change here. I would also look for the Mayor and Council to take some action rather than passing the buck and blaming the Democratic County Freeholders.

I wouldn't be so fast to discount the chances that either, or both for that matter, couldn't win a primary. Both have strong name recognition and I know that Lonnie has really served Wayne well as Council at Large and I believe voters would go off the line to vote for her.

I am surprised there is no story this week on the mayor's proposed change not to run for relection with Lonnie Ryan? I would be curious to read comments if there was.

If more than 50 percent of participants at a specific event that group would not have to pay a fee to use the facility
I think something is missing? I assume it should read 50% are Wayne residents?

this particular case shouldn't surpise anyone, seems like the assessed value of that was overstated. How valuable could that parcel be when it floods 2 to 5 times a year making it unaccesible? Also, take a look across the street and see crumbled concrete for the past 5 years with no construction in sight for the foreseeable future. Thats a pretty good indicator of its value. Seems like the administration better get its act in gear and get some economic development going in town. Otherwise, you can expect more successful appeals.

@Robert...the below excerpt came from the 2010 Township Master plan that sums it up I believe ( I also think the 35,000 limitation was set after the Lowe's "scare" and to prevent any big boxes, then after seeing all the development and ratables end up in Riverdale, they increased it the limitation to 55,000....apparently too little and too late!

    d. The Board notes that “Big Box” retail establishments exist within the Township
primarily within established retail centers. Given the concern over increased
traffic associated with big box retail development and the prominent lack of any
such free standing uses along the Route 23 or Route 46 corridor within the
Township, the Board finds that such development would be out of character with
the land use pattern associated with the existing highway corridor and therefore,
should be discouraged. However, it is recommended that the current limitation of
35,000 square feet for a single retail user in the HC, Highway Commercial Zone
is excessive and has stifled redevelopment opportunities within both corridors.
Consequently, it is recommended that the maximum square footage be increased
to 55,000 square feet to enable potential anchor stores to co-develop with other
uses as an incentive to spark redevelopment of vacant or otherwise underutilized
    commercial properties.
