The Wayne mayor and council election is set, absent any Independent challengers who may file to run. The Township will avert party primaries in June as the Passaic County Regular Republicans and Democratic Organization each submitted four candidates for office by Monday's 4 p.m. filing deadline. District officials have discussed possibly changing the grading scheme at Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley high schools. Currently there are no “minus” grades on the scale. The highest grade, for receiving a 90 or more, is an “A.” The next are “B+,” “B,” “C+," etc. The Beta Xi chapter of Delta Sigma Pi is close to it's $10,000 fundraising goal to aid the family of the late Michael Pascrell of Wayne. Michael W. Pascrell of Wayne died after being struck walking on the highway.
The Beta Xi chapter of Delta Sigma Pi is close to it's $10,000 fundraising goal to aid the family of the late Michael Pascrell of Wayne. More than $7,000 has been raised since members of the fraternity at Rider University initiated a campaign on gofundme.com in the wake of Pascrell's death Saturday after being struck by a car last Friday. Pascrell, 21, was a lifelong Wayne resident and Wayne Valley High School graduate who was in his junior year at Rider University in Lawrenceville. He was struck while walking on the right side of a ramp leading to Route 46 and succumbed to his injuries a little more than two hours after the accident. Three at-large council seats and mayoralty at stake this fall.
The Wayne mayor and council election is set, absent any Independent challengers who may file to run. The Township will avert party primaries in June as the Passaic County Regular Republicans and Democratic Organization each submitted four candidates for office by Monday's 4 p.m. filing deadline. Incumbent Republican Mayor Chris Vergano will face a challenge in the fall from Democrat Francine Del Vecchio, a teacher at Caldwell College, according to township Clerk Paul Margiotta. The Township Council's three at-large seats are set to expire this year, and incumbent Republicans Joseph Schweighardt, Lonni Miller Ryan and James Jimenez filed to retain them. Authorities are investigating what they are calling the “suspicious” death of a Wayne resident whose body was found at the base of a gorge in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania State Police discovered the body of Gail Dews, 56, at the base of the 92-foot gorge in Shohola Falls, a press release issued by the department stated. Former Wayne Hills football player Andrew Monaghan has been arrested for a third time, NorthJersey.com is reporting. Monaghan, 19, was arrested on a possession of marijuana charge on March 13, the website reported. BAE Systems laid off employees from its Wayne site. Company spokeswoman Kristin Gossel would not comment on the exact number of people who lost their jobs but BAE announced in January that some of the 800 employees…

A Wayne man was charged with driving while intoxicated in Parsippany recently, the Parsippany Police Department said Tuesday. Michael Durant, 28, was charged Friday after police pulled him over shortly before 10 p.m., Parsippany Sgt. Yvonne Christiano said. Christiano said officers saw the Toyota SUV he was driving "fishtail." After arresting him, Christiano said, police discovered Durant had an active arrest warrant out of Wayne for driving while intoxicated. The warrant was for more than $1,100. Parsippany police charged Durant with driving while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license, Christiano said.
