Female Cancer Screening Offered on Friday
Town health department is offering residents the comprehensive service.
The Wayne Health Department will offer a female cancer screening on Friday, March 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. The comprehensive screening will consist of a blood pressure reading, urinalysis, Pap test, pelvic and breast exam, and fecal occult blood test. The service will be offered at the department in the municipal building. The screening costs $35. A human papillomavirus (HPV) test will be available for an additional $45. Health Department Offering Heart, Cancer Screenings This Week
Screenings include a blood pressure reading, prostate exam, and cholesterol report.
Residents can take advantage of two screenings offered this week by the Wayne Health Department. The screening costs $25. A prostate specific antigen test is available for another $28. Appointments are required to get a screening. The screening includes a blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose screenings and a body fat analysis. Fasting is recommended for accurate results. Call the health department at 973-694-1800, ext. 3241 to schedule an appointment. Both screenings will take place at the Wayne Health Department in the municipal building on Valley Road. Flu Shots Offered Tuesday at Wayne Health Department
Shots are free for Medicare Part B participants.
The Wayne Health Department will offer flu vaccinations on Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m.. The vaccinations will be administered at the health department. Vaccinations will be available for adults and children 6 months old and older. Shots cost $15. Vaccinations are free for Medicare Part B participants who are not enrolled in an HMO. Medicare Part B participants must bring a identification card to receive the vaccine free of charge. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. The Wayne Health Department is offering flu and pneumonia vaccinations Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m.. The vaccinations will be administered at the health department. Flu vaccines will cost $15. Pneumonia vaccines will cost $25. Flu vaccines are free for residents who have Medicare Part B and who are not enrolled in an HMO. Pneumonia vaccines are also free for Medicare Part B participants who are receiving one for the first time. Medicare will only pay for one vaccination in a person's lifetime. Young Resident Buys Food for Needy Family
Boy Scout Christopher Hering solicited gift cards from grocery stores and restaurants.
Christopher Hering is a giver. The 16-year-old Boy Scout has solicited gift cards and restaurants for two years. He uses the cards to purchase food for a needy Wayne family. “Not everyone is as fortunate as we are so I thought that I should give back to the community,” Hering said. “We’re lucky to be able to give back. Some people could use what I give to help make this a special holiday for their family.” Herring uses the donated gift cards to purchase food. He buys items for the entire family. He makes sure he has enough of the necessities and then buys more luxury items. He purchased more than $300 worth of food last year. This year, he was able to buy a less than $300. Flu Shots Available at Wayne Valley Health Fair
Annual event will be held at Wayne Valley High School Saturday.
The township’s annual Health Fair will be held Saturday at Wayne Valley High School from 8:30 a.m. to noon; it is free to attend. Information from various area health care professionals will be available. Adults can receive a flu immunization for $15. Shots are free for attendees with Medicare Part B. Information about long-term care will be available. A blood drive will be held. Lead In Water Is 'Far Below' Action Level
Town releases annual Water Quality Report.
The town’s water supply is safe and does not violate any quality standard. The township released its annual water quality report this week. The pamphlet was mailed to residents this week. The report stated that the town’s water supply is considered “slightly to moderately hard water.” The township gets its drinking water from the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission. The commission takes its water from the Wanaque and Monksville Reservoirs. The concentration of lead in the water leaving the commission’s treatment facility is “far below” action level.
