Police Help Students Celebrate Vocational Careers

Chief John Reardon and Capt. Laurence Martin meet with students from Passaic County Technical Institute.

Wayne police officers helped local students celebrate National Career and Technical Education Month recently. Chief John Reardon and Capt. Laurence Martin went to Passaic County Technical Institute earlier this month in recognition of the education initiative. Culinary Arts students baked pastries. Cosmetology students gave senior citizens a day of pampering. Students studying healthcare provided free health screenings to staff members and students.

Swim Teams Raise Money for Cancer Research

Teams donate money to the American Cancer Society.

Passaic County swim teams raised more than $1,000 for the American Cancer Society (ACS) at the annual county championship swim meet recently, NorthJersey.com reported. Game Day Sports, a Wayne sporting goods store, donated T-shirts as part of the event, the website reported. The swim teams at Wayne Hills donated $100 to the ACS.

Young Artists' Work Recognized at Annual Exhibit

Students from Wayne Valley, Wayne Hills, DePaul Catholic, and Passaic County Technical Institute receive awards.

Dozens of area students’ were honored for their creative talents at ArtStart, a exhibition at William Paterson University showcasing area students’ and faculty members’ artwork. Students from several area high schools, including Wayne Hills, Wayne Valley, DePaul Catholic, and Passaic County Technical Institute, had their work on display at the Power Art Gallery. Brittany Warther is one of those students. She drew a picture of her young cousin. Warther said she likes to focus on people’s emotions in her artwork. “I wanted to show her innocence," Warther said. “I started with her face, I’m really interested in people’s faces. Great Escape: Drum Corps Grand Prix Title Up For Grabs

This Saturday gates will open at 5 p.m. and show begins at 6:30 p.m. This is a family event.

On Saturday, July 9, The Hawthorne Caballeros will be hosting their 47th annual Drum Corps Grand Prix at Passaic County Technical Institute located in Wayne. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and the entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m. This event will be judged and the title of Drum Corps Grand Prix Champion will be awarded. The Drum Corps competition will have groups from various areas of the East Coast. Tickets range from $17 to $20 For more information see http://www.hawthornecaballeros.org/ .
