After they made a successful series of carries down the field, Wayne Valley quarterback Mike Eckrote threw a touchdown pass to Luke Primerano. With just a few minutes left in the half, Ramapo quarterback Ryan Dougherty twice failed to connect a pass to Norkett. After a short carry, Dougherty made third …

Students Learn How to Achieve a Natural High

Psychologist speaks at high schools about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.

Matt Bellace spoke to Wayne high school students Tuesday about the need for children to experience a natural high. Drugs rob students of their innocence and cause them to make unwise decisions, Bellace said. “You’ll never hear anyone say anything intelligent after: ‘Man, I was so wasted last night’,” Bellace said. Bellace spoke at Wayne Hills, Wayne Valley, and DePaul Catholic high schools. Bellace is a clinical neurological …

Principals Discuss Going to an Eight-Period Day

Implementing an eight-period day and decreasing the number of credits high school students would need to graduate were discussed at a special board of education meeting Tuesday evening. Principals Scot Beckerman and Robert Reis spoke to the board about the possible change. “It helps the students on the lower end of the spectrum, it doesn’t hurt the students on the upper end of the spectrum because those students are still going to take a full load of courses,” Beckerman, principal of Wayne Hills High School, said. The board is considering the move from a nine-period long day to an eight in order to cut costs due to a 2 percent increase cap on public budgets imposed by state legislators earlier this year. Beckerman presented the board with …
