Interfaith Network Moves Food Pantry to YMCA

The Wayne Interfaith Network began looking for a place to move or store its excess donations at since January. The food panty used to be located at Packanack Community Church.

The Wayne Interfaith Network has relocated its food pantry to the Wayne YMCA. The food pantry had been located at Packanack Community Church. Personnel running the pantry began looking for another location in January. Church trustees met with WIN officials to see if there was another location they could store their excess food. Donations would often be piled up in the hallway and near the church entrance. About 60 Wayne families receive assistance from the pantry every month. “Being at the Y allows for added privacy and convenience for our clients,” Herb Schuman, coordinator of the food pantry, said in a statement. “The Y has been so cooperative.” The food pantry was founded in 1984. Mayor: We Have Much to Be Thankful For

Chris Vergano: Wayne is defined by a 'spirit of volunteerism,' encourages residents to donate to the Wayne Interfaith Network's food bank.

Nov. 22 is Thanksgiving. This is the time of year when we reflect back on just how much we have to be thankful for and to count all of our blessings.  Personally, I am thankful for my family, friends, and for the great township where we all live. As long as I can remember, Wayne has been defined by the spirit of volunteerism and that spirit was once again exhibited after “Superstorm Sandy” passed through the township as many of our fellow citizens volunteered their time to help those who were in need.  The township is blessed to have a volunteer fire department and first aid squad that responds to all types of emergencies in all types of weather. Volunteers Give Residents Respite From Dark, Cold Homes

VOAD provides free meals to hurricane victims at the Police Athletic League.

Tracy Solowski sat and enjoyed some pasta with her father Raymond. "We're still out of power," said Solowski, who has been without power for a few days. "Everything is moving very slowly. It is 57 degrees inside the house."  The Solowskis were two of the approximately 100 people who ate a free hot meal at the Police Athletic League (PAL) Thursday night courtesy of Wayne VOAD. VOAD, which stands for Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters, is providing a variety of services and coordination the efforts of various businesses and other local entities to provide relief to residents who are without power due to Hurricane Sandy.
