Discarded Cigarette Causes Fire that Closes Fuddruckers

Blaze reportedly started in the mulch of a flower bed outside the building.

A discarded cigarette started a fire that has closed Fuddruckers restaurant, authorities said. Firefighters found heavy smoke inside a walk-in refrigerator and a "moderate" fire inside walls and the ceiling of the building Sunday at about 4 p.m., said Steven Toth, fire commissioner.  Fire crews had to open interior and exterior walls to battle the blaze, Toth said.  All "visible flames" were knocked down 30 minutes after firefighters arrived on scene. 'Chain Reaction' May Have Caused Warehouse Fire

Fire broke out at Haul Road warehouse Monday morning. One firefighter was treated for exhaustion.

Plastic materials in a cardboard box may have set off a chain reaction that caused a fire to break out at a warehouse on Haul Road Monday morning, authorities reported. Firefighters responded to a fire at the location at 10:15 a.m., said Fire Commissioner Steven Toth. They encountered heavy smoke coming from a large stack of cardboard boxes and wood pallets in the back of the warehouse. Firefighters were able to knock down most of the fire within 15 minutes and had the blaze under control in an hour, Toth said. Crews were on scene for another hour putting out the rest of the blaze. “Preliminary investigations point to hot plastics that were discarded in a cardboard box that was then placed next to stored materials, setting off a chain …

They and a few pets got out of the house with no injuries. Lowe said a man saw the fire, knocked on the door, and yelled for the occupants to get out of the house. Fire Commissioner Steve Toth said the fire appeared to have started on the exterior of the house and migrated into the attic. “Everything right now points to this being an accidental fire,” Toth said. “There’s nothing suspicious at this point.” Toth said authorities were still investigating the cause of the blaze Friday afternoon. All five fire companies and the Wayne Fire Aid Squad …
