Massage Ordinance Not Voted On By Council

New ordinance will be introduced once state finalizes revamping laws pertaining to massage parlors, masseuses.

The council did not vote on an ordinance Wednesday that would have established new regulations pertaining to massage parlors and masseuses. The ordinance was not voted on because state officials are changing their regulations pertaining to the establishments. “We decided that it would be logical to wait to change our ordinance until after the state changes the regulations,” said Mayor Chris Vergano. The ordinance will be reintroduced once officials know what facets of the industry the new state regulations will cover. Wayne Looks To Ban Nude Massages, Fingerprint Masseuses

Proposed law requires private areas be covered, overtly bans sexual encounters, create new health standards

Wayne is looking to tighten its grip on massage parlors with a slew of new regulations that ban exposed genitals and require background checks for masseuses. Employees would not be permitted to “perform, or offer to perform any act, which would require the touching of a patron’s sexual or genital area.” The new law would require a patron’s private area be covered by "towels, cloths, or undergarments” when they are in the presence of an employee. “Certainly there are some [massage parlors] that provide a service to the community and then there are those that do not,” Mayor Chris Vergano said when the ordinance was discussed Wednesday during the council session. Massage therapists must be licensed by the township, submit to a background …

Councilman: 'It is rewarding to help people do things that they can’t do for themselves.'

When Gerard Porter was first got involved in town politics, computers used punch cards, town hall was located in the Mountain View section of the town and there was a lot more farmland in the area. Porter has represented Wayne’s Third Ward for approximately 20 years. But he is not seeking re-election this year. The Third Ward contains approximately 9,600 residents, most of who live around Packanack Lake. “I love it here. It is a unique community,” Porter said with a smile. “When we first moved here, there were 450 families and we knew everybody. We had our own basketball and baseball leagues there were so many kids in this area.” Porter has a simple philosophy when it comes to his role on the council. “You can’t have your own agenda. You …

The writer of this article hasn't misinformed people. Councilman Porter has been involved in Wayne politics for many years, way before he was elected as the Third Ward councilman, which he has been doing for over 20 years. When he was first involved with politics, computers did use punch cards. More people should be as involved in their community as Gerard Porter.   more ›
