Group is designed to help siblings of special needs students.
A new support group for siblings of special needs students will meet for the first time this week. The group is designed for children in third thorugh eighth grade. It is set up so children can freely express what they are a feelings and experiencing in a group setting. The group will hold its first meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Giggles and Grow Preschool. Jamie LaRusso, a licensed professional counselor and mother of three children, including one with special needs, will facilitate the meetings. The group is a collaborative effort between the Wayne Public School District and the Wayne Council of Parent Teacher Organization's Special Parents Association. Police arrested an employee of Gold Spa on Hamburg Turnpike after they conducted an undercover investigation. Police received an anonymous tip from a concerned citizen. An SUV caught on fire early Wednesday morning on Weinmanns Boulevard. Both occupants of the vehicle were unharmed in the early morning blaze. The Board of Education has made it cheaper for local organization to use district-owned facilities. Groups whose participants are more than 50 percent Wayne residents will not be charged a rental fee to use facilities. Specialist will instruct parents how they can identify the essential components of an Individualized Education Program.
Parents can learn about Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and ways they can imporve the educational outcomes of their children at a special workshop Jan. 29. "Parent Involvement in Education: An Overview of the IEP Procress" will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wayne Public Library. The Special Parents Association (SPA) of the Wayne Council of Parent Teacher Organizations is sponsoring the workshop. The SPA works to educate parents of special education students about their child's education and what they can do to imporve his or her educational experiennce. Attendees can meet new board members.
The Speical Parents Associaton of Wayne (SPA) is hosting an Open House on Monday, Oct. 15 at the Wayne Public Library. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the newly elected SPA board members, learn about the interesting and informative SPA programs planned for this school year, along with an update from Wayne’s Special Services Department on new developments in our special education programs. Attendees mauy also speak with community leaders about the work and contributions that they are doing to provide support to the special education community. The workshop will teach children how to ride a bike.
The Special Parents Association of the PTO will offer a 7-week cultural workshop to teach special needs children how to ride a bike. The workshop will focus on bike management, balance and coordination, pedaling and stopping, vision and perception and safety. Participants will be able to ride without training wheels by the time spring comes. The workshop, held every Saturday, starts Jan. 21 and ends March 10. It is held at Packanack Lake Elementary School in the gymnasium. Participants can go to session one, which is noon to 1 p.m., or session two, which is 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Enrollment is $190, which is due on Jan. 21.
