Congressman visits with Verona High School students for a question and answer session.
Verona may have some politicians in the making after history students spent a class period Wednesday, discussing politics with Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11th District). Verona High School history and social sciences teacher Christopher Tamburro, who stresses being involved in government and decision making to all his students, organized the congressman’s visit. “Students should directly experience the government as much as possible so that they are inclined to participate as educated voters and citizens in the future,” he said. Last fall, Frelinghuysen won his 10th two-year term in the House of Representatives when he defeated former Roseland Mayor John Arvanites to serve constituents in the reconfigured district. The district cuts a …

To the Editor: In response to "Veteran Questions Frelinghuysen's Voting Record" dated Sept. 28, 2012 This issue again? I am always amused that partisan opponents of our Congressman, Rodney Frelinghuysen, think they can curry favor with the voters by attacking a fellow veteran with a distinguished record of service. Sure, anyone can take a few votes out of context in a career filled with thousands of votes. But the truth of the matter is that I know of no other veteran who thinks Mr. Frelinghuysen doesn’t care about veterans or does them any ill. In fact, talk to any of the veterans leaders in this area and they will tell you they are proud to stand alongside Frelinghuysen. Actually, Mr. Foley’s attacks are not amusing. They are a sad …

To the Editor: I attended a town hall meeting on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Roseland Municipal Building that was conducted by Rodney Frelinghuysen, the Congressman representing NJ’s 11th district. As a veteran who served this country, I have a special interest in understanding how and why our representatives vote on issues of war, the military, and veterans’ affairs. I asked Congressman Frelinghuysen three questions about his voting record: Congressman Frelinghuysen never answered the first question. With respect to the second two, he replied as follows: “Veterans should never be second class citizens. I’ve always voted to support health care and job training for veterans.” When asked the third question, the Congressman actually …

Federal program needs a stable funding source to be effective in a reasonable amount of time.
If it’s summer, it must be time for a Superfund site tour. Last week, Rep. Rodney P. Frelinghuysen visited six sites in the 11th District, which includes Morris County and portions of Passaic, Somerset and Sussex counties, with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administrator for Region 2. All the locations—in Rockaway, Rockaway Township (2), Wharton, Dover and Fairfield—have cleanups in progress or are subject to continued monitoring. They are just a few of New Jersey’s 112 sites on Superfund’s National Priorities List. We are the only state with more than 100 sites on the list of most contaminated locations. There are another 100 sites in the state subject to federal monitoring under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act …

Democrat John Arvanites running against longtime Republican incumbent Rodney Frelinghuysen to represent Wayne in redrawn 11th Congressional District.
John Arvanites wants to represent everyone. Arvanites is the Democratic candidate running to represent New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. Wayne will be included in the newly redrawn district due to the results of the 2010 Census. Arvanites is running against longtime incumbent Rodney Frelinghuysen. Arvanites said he is interested in truly representing the needs of the entre district, not just people located on either end of the socio-economic and political spectrums. “We don’t have a middle class anymore, we have a majority class and that’s who I want to represent,” Arvanites said. “That’s why you get elected to these positions, to do what’s best for the majority, not to do what is best for you and not just a small group of people …

Republican Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen has announced he is running to represent New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District again. Wayne is currently in the 8th Congressional District, which is represented by Democratic Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr. As part of a redistricting plan due to the results of the 2010 Census, Wayne will move to the 11th district beginning Jan. 1, 2013.
