The Board of Education selected Rogger Ortiz to fill a vacant spot on the board a special meeting Monday night. Ortiz will serve the rest of former trustee Robyn Kingston's term. Kingston resigned from the board in January and moved to Texas. "On behalf of the applicants, I want to thank the board for interviewing us and I thank the board for selecting me," Ortiz said. "I look forward to working with them." Ortiz and his wife own Christina by Design salon. His sons attend George Washington Middle School and Randall Carter Elementary School. Five residents hope to serve the remainder of former Board of Education trustee Robyn Kingston's term.
Six residents applied for the Board of Education term that was vacated earlier this year by former trustee Robyn Kingston. Catherine Kazan, Rogger Ortiz, Matthew Giordano, Robert Pignatello, Jacqueline Pisatowski, and Lisa Spatola initally applied for the position. Giordano submitted a resignation letter to the board last week. Kingston resigned from her term in January. “It just seems like an opportunity that goes along with everything that we’re involved in,” said Ortiz. “I feel like I should be a part of the narrative. Crime stories dominated January as authorities charged several women with soliciating of prostitution and an alleged cocaine dealer living near Anthony Wayne Middle School was arrested. Six women were charged with solicitation of prostitution after the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sweep of hotels throughout the county, including two in Wayne. After much speculation, Robyn Kingston resigned her seat on the Board of Education. Kingston was elected to the board in 2011. She moved to Texas. Josue Ramirez, 31, was charged after detectives from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Narcotics searched Ramirez’s Towsen Road home near Anthony Wayne Middle School. Board will begin interviewing candidates to replace Robyn Kingston, hopes to have seat filled by next month.
Trustee Robyn Kingston has resigned her seat on the Board of Education. Juanita Petty, board secretary and the district’s business administrator, announced Kingston’s resignation at the board meeting Thursday. The resignation was effective Wednesday. Rumors of such a move by Kingston were swirling for months. It is expected Kingston will move to Texas where her husband has been working. Kingston did not return a message Thursday night seeking comment. Kingston, a former co-president of the Wayne Council of Parent Teacher Organizations, was elected to the board in 2011. Board of Education trustee Robyn Kingston addressed rumors Thursday night that she would resign her board seat this year. Resident Mark Klypka said at Thursday's Board of Education meeting rumors have been circulating that Kingston would resign her seat this year and move to Texas. “Hopefully, it is not true and if it is true I find it very unprofessional,” Klypka said. Klypka regularly attends meetings and asks officials questions regarding the district, its personnel, and how it operates. Mr Pignatello I would suggest you run for a seat on the board in November. There will be 3, 3 year terms and 1, 1 year term. Then it will be in the hands of the town voters not the board.   more ›
