Elementary School Gets New Principal

Jennifer Morris will take over at Randall Carter Elementary School beginning in August.

Jennifer Morris was named the new principal of Randall Carter Elementary School Thursday night. The Board of Education approved Morris’s hiring at their meeting. Morris replaces Kenneth Kaplan. Kaplan, who’s led the school for nine years, will retire in August. The meeting agenda states Morris has a master’s degree from The College of Saint Elizabeth. Morris’s pro-rated salary, which would be updated when the negotiations between her and the district are complete, would be more than $116,000. Kaplan makes $152,000. Kaplan is the third Wayne principal who will retire after this school year. Pines Lake’s Pamela Longo and Theunis Dey’s Laura Russomano will also retire in August. The Board approved Russomano's retirement at the meeting. — Have…

Students Read 20,000 Books, Get a Visit from Radio Disney [video]

School finished third in statewide competition.

Radio Disney visited Randall Carter Elementary School recently. Students from that school read 20,000 as part of the New Jersey Education Association’s statewide reading competition. Outgoing Principal: Working in Wayne Has Been 'Wonderful'

Kenneth Kaplan walks down the hallway at Randall Carter Elementary School greeting his students with a smile. He jokes with them. They exchange high-fives.  "This is the first district where I felt I belonged and had strong relationships with the administrators and families here," Kaplan said. "In my old districts, I was isolated to just the schools. Here in Wayne, the schools are really part of the community. It's a heart-warming feeling." Kaplan will retire from the position he's held for nine years in August. The Board of Education approved the retirement at a meeting on Thursday.
