Entire 'Last Patriot' Documentary Premieres Friday

MSG Varsity chronicles last season of Wayne Hills quarterback Kevin Olsen and his father and coach, Chris.

The documentary “New Jersey’s Last Patriot,” about star quarterback Kevin Olsen, will premiere in its entirety on Friday at 7:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity. The two-and-a-half-hour film chronicles Olsen through the recruiting process and throughout his senior season as Wayne Hills High School. The first half of the documentary, the network’s first, premiered in August. The second half of the movie was filmed this past season as Olsen tried to help his dad win a ninth state sectional championship. Olsen broke a bone in his foot in the first game of the season and missed several games. His quest for a ninth state sectional championship for his dad fell short when the Patriots lost in the semi-finals to Pascack Valley earlier this month. Olsen, an …

Students Get the Inside Scoop on High School Life

Students from Lafayette Elementary School interviewed four student leaders from Wayne Valley High School Thursday. MSG Varsity sponsored the event.

Fifth graders at Lafayette Elementary School got a taste of what its like to be sideline reporter Thursday. Four students asked student leaders from Wayne Valley High School a few questions about their experiences. The Assmebly Program was the first to be held in New Jersey. MSG Varsity sponsored the event. Microphone in hand, Anjail Ghosh, Jenna Ender, Colin Ramos, and Frank Tortora interviewed Amy DeVoe, Bob Steomack, Bari Nedick, and Luke Primerano. Students from the audience asked questions too. DeVoe is an officer of the school's National Honor Society chapter. Nedick is captain of the girls' soccer team. Steomack is senior class president. Annual Hills-Valley Game To Be Broadcast Online Live

Rivalry game will be shown on MSG Varsity's website beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday.

The annual Wayne Hills-Wayne Valley football game will be broadcast live on the MSG Varsity website beginning Friday at 7 p.m. The game will also be broadcast on MSG Varsity on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 9 p.m. Both teams are 1-0. Valley won its season opener against West Milford 24-12. Hills dismantled Northern Highlands 56-7. Kevin Olsen, Hills’ star quarterback, will not play in the game. He fractured a bone in his right foot in the Northern Highlands game. He could miss between six and eight weeks. The win propelled Valley up 19 places in the No. 117 team in the state and 341 places to No. 4,700 in the country in Maxpreps.com’s rankings.  The Indians are ranked No. 5 in the state’s North 1 Group 4 Division. 'Last Patriot' Shows Rise of Famed Football Family

MSG Varsity's film chronicles the career of Coach Olsen, his son Kevin, the rest of the family and eight Wayne Hills state championships.

It was a red-carpet premiere Thursday night. Hundreds stepped out to see a documentary about a family whose football roots run deep in the community and whose name is synonymous with state championships. Part I of MSG Varsity’s first documentary “New Jersey’s Last Patriot” premiered at Clearview Cinemas in the Preakness Mall. Dozens of Wayne Hills football players, wearing their maroon and white jerseys, coaches, family, and friends attended the screening. The documentary, the network’s first, chronicled the journey Wayne’s First Family of football has taken together since before Chris Olsen became head coach at Wayne Hills. Rowe Wins District's Only V Award This Year

Hills student received honorable mention for his coverage of the football team's game against Hackensack High School.

Christian Rowe received the district’s only V Award this year. Rowe, a student at Wayne Hills High School, received an honorable mention for his game coverage of Wayne Hills vs. Hackensack High School. The awards honor the best in student media production in the tri-state area. Hills will receive a $1,000 grant from MSG Varsity. Rowe and several other students, took home a V Award last year for best Full-Game Production. The award was discontinued this year. Josh Mordkoff and Alex Green were nominated for best On-Air Sports Talent and best play-by-play/color commentator, respectively. Several Wayne High Schools students are nominees for MSG Varsity’s second annual V Awards. The awards are designed to foster the next generation of broadcast professionals by recognizing excellence in student-produced content for television.
