Plant Sale, Flower Tour Will Be Held At Arboretum This Week

Attendees can see several different varieties of flowers and birds.

Laurelwood Arboretum is hosting several events in the next week. Rain or high winds will cancel the event. Woodland plants, azaleas, and other popular annuals and perennials will be available to purchase. A limited selection of plants grown in the Arboretum’s greenhouses will be available as well. Sara McHugh will artfully arrange plants purchased at the event in any container someone brings. FOLA will also sell a variety of garden-related items. All proceeds from the event will benefit FOLA, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and maintaining the arboretum. Al Fitzburgh, a rhododendron expert, will lead the tour and talk about the facility’s collection of rare rhododendrons. A cart is available for handicapped attendees but …

Plant Sale At Laurelwood Will Be Held May 12

Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum hosting annual event.

The Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum (FOLA) will host its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Woodland plants, azaleas, and other popular annuals, perennials, and some speical plants grown at the Arboretum will be avaialble to purchase.  Gardener Sara McHugh will artfully arrange plants in any container than an attendee brings. FOLA will also sell baked goods and a variety of garden-related items. Proceeds from the event will go towards FOLA, a nonprofit organization that works to preserve and maintain the Arboretum.  Laurelwood is a 30-acre facility located in at 725 Pines Lake Drive West in the Pines Lake area of Wayne. Volunteers Needed to Help at Laurelwood Every Tuesday

Groups can help beautify 30-acre facility until October.

Volunteers can begin to help out at Laurelwood Arboretum on Tuesday. Individuals may volunteer at Laurelwood every Tuesday and the first Saturday of every month from 9 to 11:30 a.m. until October. Volunteers helping on Saturday will operate in the areas of the 30-acre facility that need the most work.  Individuals will meet in the pavillion. Attendees should bring gloves, small hand tools, and water to drink.  The Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum, a non-profit organization, manages and coordinates volunteer efforts at the Arboretum. Residents Can Tour Laurelwood Arboretum Later This Month

Free tours given in celebration of Arbor Day.

Volunteers from Laurelwood Arboretum will offer free guided tours of the facility on Saturday, April 28. Tours will be held at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and noon. Laurelwood Arboretum is a 30-acre botanically diverse property that contains woodland trails, gardens, wildlife, two ponds, and some streams. It also has hundreds of varieties of rhododendrons, azaleas, and other unusual species of plants and trees.   There is also an abundance of insecets and other wildlife in the facility. The arboretum is in need of voluteers for this year. Rotary Club's Beefsteak Dinner Will Be Held May 7

Spring Fling committee met recently to discuss the event.

Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum in Need of Volunteers

Volunteer kickoff event will be held Saturday, April 7.

In an attempt to recruit more volunteers, Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum (FOLA) is planning a Volunteer Kickoff day at Laurelwood on Saturday, April 7. The event begins at 9 a.m. From April 10 through October, volunteers are needed to help beautify and maintain the arboretum. Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays and the first Saturday of every month from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Volunteers will work in the areas that need the most work on Saturdays. There are a number of bridges and paths, and a greenhouse, to maintain. Gardeners are also needed to help beautify the property. Plants will be Available to Purchase at Laurelwood Saturday and Sunday

The Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum's (FOLA) annual plant sale will also be held on Sunday, Sept. 25 if heavy rain falls on Saturday. The event is still scheduled to take place Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Arboretum from 9 a.m. to noon. In the event of heavy rain, the sale will also be held Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon. This year’s sale will feature large chrysanthemum and a selection of perennials grown by FOLA volunteers from the Arboretum’s specimens. This year’s sale will feature large chrysanthemum and a selection of perennials grown by FOLA volunteers from the Arboretum’s specimens will be available to purchase.
