The Jewelry Exchange says it's ceased purchasing secondhand jewelry. Personnel from The Wayne Diamond and Jewelry Exchange allegedly attacked a cameraman and a reporter.
Authorities promise to stay vigilant and keep investigating businesses that purchase secondhand jewelry in light of burglaries that occurred in town earlier this year. Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes reaffirmed her office’s commitment to find the stolen items that have not been recovered yet. Valdes and other authorities said Tuesday that a dozen Wayne jewelers allegedly violated state and local laws protecting consumers seeking to trade in their precious metals for money. More than 170 state civil complaints were filed against the business owners.
A dozen Wayne jewelers allegedly violated state and municipal laws by improperly purchasing precious metals from undercover investigators. More than 170 state civil complaints and 30 municipal code violations were filed against the jewelers for allegedly violating the laws protecting consumers seeking to trade in gold, silver and other precious metals for money. Law enforcement officials announced the alleged violations at a press conference Tuesday. The jewelers are accused of failing to weigh and test the fineness of precious metals in plain view of sellers, not obtaining sellers’ proof of identification, not posting the prices offered for precious metals, and failing to issue receipts. Alleged thief breaks leg in escape attempt
A man broke his leg early Monday during an attempted burglary of Jewelry By Marcus on Route 46 East, Wayne Police reported. Police responded to an alarm that went off at the business shortly before 4:30 a.m., Detective Capt. James Clarke said. Upon arriving at the scene, police heard power tools being used and discovered a false wall covering an alley between the store and a business directly behind it, Clarke said. Police at the scene discovered a man-sized hole in the store’s wall and the power tools used to create it behind the false wall, Clarke said. To put it bluntly , this is a major blow to their ability to do any kind of business.
