Sign on the exterior of the building catches fire Saturday night, forcing evacuation of restaurant, apartments, fire commissioner said.
Gabriel's Restaurant and several apartments were evacuated after a sign on the exterior of the building caught fire Saturday night, Fire Commissioner Steve Toth said. A passing motorist notified police that an exterior sign attached to the building was on fire, Toth said. John Gabriel, who is the third-generation owner of the restaurant and chief of Fire Company 2 was in the kitchen cooking at the time the fire was reported, Toth said. He heard the call come in on his radio. Arriving firefighters found the sign and the sides of the second and third floors of the building on fire, Toth said. New music school sponsoring performances of classic songs played at Woodstock concert in 1969. Proceeds will be donated to Rock the Pink, a national non-profit.
Student musicians from the new School of Rock in Wayne will present a tribute to the music of Woodstock in two fundraising concerts in October. The two-hour shows will feature students in the School’s Performance Program. Proceeds from the shows will be donated to Rock the Pink, a non-profit dedicated to raise breast cancer health awareness through music. “In addition to having weekly 45 minute private lessons, our Performance Program students also rehearsed for three hours each week throughout the summer for these upcoming concerts,” said Maurice Watson, general manager of School of Rock. “Their levels of commitment, talent, and passion are off the charts, and they’re going to rip the roof off in each of these amazing concerts.” …
