Diner Evacuated After Fire Breaks Out in Basement

The 24-hour establishment was promptly emptied and shut down pending an investigation and subsequent inspection.

The Wayne Hills Diner was evacuated Monday night after a fire reportedly occurred in the basement of the restaurant at about 11 p.m., authorities said. The diner was promptly evacuated, Toth said. There were customers inside when the fire occurred. The Police Department's Arson Unit is investigating the fire. Toth said officials were trying to discover what caused the fire. There were no reported injuries, Toth said. All food that was open and being used …

Fire Damages Woodhaven Drive Home

Resident was burning charcoal inside a gas grill before the fire started, authorities said.

The exterior of a Woodhaven Drive home caught on fire after a gas grill was set ablaze at about 9 p.m. Sunday night. A resident of the home was burning charcoal inside the grill, which may have caused it to catch on fire, said Fire Commissioner Steve Toth. The propane tank on the grill was melted and charred as a result. “We don’t know if it was leaking prior to the fire or because of the fire,” Toth said. The fire destroyed the grill and spread up the outside of the house, damaging part of it. The fire did not spread to the inside of the house, Toth said. The fire was extinguished in a matter of minutes. Two adults and a few children who were home were not injured and no firefighters were reportedly hurt, Toth said. Fire Companies 3, 4, …
