Mayor Expected to Drop Incumbent from Ticket

Councilwoman Lonni Miller Ryan said she would run for re-election as a Republican whether she is included on the mayor's ticket or not.

Councilwoman Lonni Miller Ryan is expected to be dropped from Mayor Chris Vergano’s slate of candidates for the general election in November, NorthJersey.com reported this week. The website reported that Vergano’s ticket is expected to include Deborah Ciambrone and incumbents James Jimenez and Joseph Schweighardt. Ciambrone lost her seat on the county Freeholder Board in November. Miller Ryan, a legislative aide to Assemblyman Scott Rumana, announced her intention to run for re-election earlier this month. “I am eager for an opportunity to continue to serve the residents of Wayne,” Ryan said earlier this week. Miller Ryan wrote a letter to Wayne Republicans earlier this month asking for their support this election season. “I am asking for …

Transition Begins For County GOP

Councilwomen Lonni Miller Ryan and Nadine Bello and Freeholder Debbi Clambrone to help new GOP chairman increase voter participation and social media presence.

Five Wayne residents will serve on John Traier’s transition team as he moves into his new role as chairman of the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization (PCRRO). Traier is the new chairman of the PCRRO. He was elected recently after Assemblyman Scott Rumana announced in March that he was stepping down as chairman after six years. County Freeholder Debbie Clambrone, Councilwomen Lonni Miller Ryan and Nadine Bello, Al Frech, Susan Enderly, and Linda Zisa will serve on the committee. “These individuals represent a diverse group of active republicans who I thought would help give input to the structural changes that have occurred with the organization,” Traier said. “I hope the changes we’ve made will boost morale in the party.” Four …

Nearly 10 Months After Irene, One Family Still Isn't Home

Manuel and Maria Pineiro say flood insurance hasn't given them enough money to properly fix their home.

One Wayne family is still recovering from Hurricane Irene. Manuel and Maria Pineiro have not returned to their home since Aug. 27 of last year after their Boulavard Drive home was flooded. “I just want my house back or to at least have someone buy it,” Maria Pineiro said. The couple immigrated to the United States from Spain in 1977. They bought their house immediately after the historic flood in 1984. The house is located in the Old Wayne section of town only a few hundred feet from the Pompton River. Despite the neighborhood having a history of flooding, their home only received water in it once, in 2010. The couple has paid for flood insurance that entire time. The Pineiros have been living with their daughter Maria and son-in-law Brian…

In case you are not aware, the Federal Government writes the policies for the National Flood Insurance Program. There are, however, private insurance companies, such as The Hartford, who write the flood insurance policies, BUT the private companies must abide by the Federal Government's rules and regulations. Flood insurance victims, therefore, are between a rock and a hard place, because the …   more ›

Disaster Recovery Meeting Postponed

Meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday night.

The training meeting sponsored by a new community volunteer organization scheduled for Tuesday night was postponed. The meeting is being pushed back to allow more time for interested residents to register for the program. “We’re going to take names down of people who want to get involved and when there is enough interest, we’ll reschedule the meeting,” Ryan said. Ryan recently formed a new community volunteer group to assist residents with flood recovery and other emergency assistance when the need arises. The group and Wayne Volunteer Organization Active in Disaster are co-sponsoring several meetings this month to train and educate others on how to help others during disasters. For more information or to sign up for the meeting, call Ryan…

Right now, far too little, too late. No one showed; its virtually a year later - cut the political nonsense. We're far too educated in Wayne for the political , jump on the bandwagon stuff.   more ›
