Current band of thieves burglarizing North Jersey homes follow same pattern as infamous group.
They've been caught on a home security video wearing masks breaking into a Chatham residence and an apparent getaway car—a silver Porsche with New York license plates—was spotted in Parsippany last week. But the band of thieves who are believed to be responsible for numerous high-end residential burglaries throughout North Jersey, including in Morris and Somerset counties, continue to elude authorities. The burglary ring shares similar characteristics to the James Bond Gang, the band of thieves known for their exotic getaway cars and sophisticated style. Representatives from police department, county sheriff's department, and county prosecutor's office to attend meeting.
Local and county officials will host an information session on Saturday to discuss the recent rash of burglaries that have occurred in North Jersey and Wayne recently. The meeting will be held at Wayne Valley High School from 1 to 2 p.m. Representatives from the Wayne Police Department’s Detective Bureau, Community Policing Unit, the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office will attend the event. Officials will give tips on how residents can better safeguard their homes and neighborhoods. In one incident, woman claimed she burglarized an abandoned house because she was "broke."
A Lincoln Park woman has been charged with burglary after police reported she broke into an abandoned Brookside Road home Friday afternoon. Officer Robert Franco responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle — a black van — parked at the end of River Road, according to a police report. Police found the vehicle in front of an abandoned home at 31 Brookside Road and discovered that the rear door was forced open and left ajar, Franco reported. Inside, a woman, later identified as Jodi Luke, fled from police, running over a nearby railroad track embankment, Franco reported. Police are investigating two more burglaries that were reported on Tuesday and Wednesday. Jewelry was taken from both residences, Detective Capt. James Clarke said. Officer Ardian Cela responded to a Nellis Drive residence Tuesday morning on a report of a burglary. Cela’s report states that the residents left their home at noon on Monday. When they returned at 7 a.m. Tuesday they noticed a sliding door on the back of the house and kitchen window were open. Clarke said there was no forced entry discovered at the residence. The couple reported that jewelry, including rings, bracelets, and several pairs of earrings were taken from a jewelry box in a bedroom. Police are reporting that an attempted burglary occurred on Newark Pompton Turnpike Saturday night, authorities said. Officer Rick Vanderclock responded to a residence for a burglary in progress at 9:15 p.m., a report on the incident states. A caller reported that someone was at the rear of the house trying to break in and the back door of the residence was kicked in, Vanderclock reported. Residents reported to responding police officers that they observed someone wearing dark clothing running with a flashlight on Dupont Terrace, police reported. Four more burglaries occurred in town between Monday morning and early Wednesday morning, Wayne Police said. That brings the total number of burglaries that occurred in recent weeks to 19. A dozen burglaries occurred in the Valley section of town between April 25 and May 30. Three more were reported between May 31 and June 3. Wayne Police are reporting that three more burglaries occurred in town between May 31 and Sunday, June 3. The burglaries are in addition to 12 that already occurred in recent weeks in the Valley section of town. Jewelry was taken in all three of the burglaries, said Detective Capt. James Clarke said. A home on Donald Court was burglarized on either May 31 or June 1. Entry and egress was made through a broken window on the back of the house. Wayne Police are investigating a dozen burglaries that occurred in the Valley section of town in recent weeks. The burglaries took place between April 25 and May 30, police reported. Most of the incidents occurred in the evening. Forced entry into the houses was gained mostly through windows that were pried open. Jewelry, money, watches, and coins were reported taken from some of the homes. Bedrooms in several of the incidents were ransacked. A safe was taken from one of the houses and a smaller safe at another house was pried open.
