Here is a recap of the top stories from Thanksgiving week. Two Wayne men were charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest after they attempted to flee during a traffic stop on Packanack Lake Road Tuesday night, police reported. In addition to the assault and resisting arrest charges, the men were charged with obstruction, hindering apprehension, possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute. More than Wayne Hills 100 students from the school’s national honor society collected vegetables and created bundles of food for needy families for Thanksgiving. Willowbrook frenzy fades early Friday morning.

Willowbrook Mall at 6 a.m. was almost quiet. Many of the overnight bargain hunters had gone home or to the next site. Black Friday shoppers had waited for hours late Thanksgiving night for the mall's opening at midnight.

Willowbrook to Open at Midnight on Friday

Shopping center will offer hourly deals for the first six hours of the holiday shopping season.

The Wilowbrook Mall will open at midnight on Black Friday, Nov. 23. Various stores in the mall will offer specials and sales every hour between midnight and 6 a.m. To view the mall’s holiday schedule, which includes several days of extended operating hours, click here. The mall will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. beginning Monday, Dec. 17.

Black Friday Shoppers Cram North Jersey Malls

Lines began forming Thursday night

Throngs of shoppers descended on North Jersey’s malls before dawn Black Friday, coming from as far away as Canada in a rush for bargains at the start of the holiday shopping season. It only took 15 minutes for the crowds outside of the Bergen Town Center in Paramus and neighboring Target to flood the buildings. Some shoppers began lining up overnight in a quest for sales. Dina, from Toronto, Canada, traveled to New Jersey to visit family and take in the American Black Friday experience. "I've heard so much about it on the news and I just want to enjoy the experience," she said. Black Friday veteran Lori Tallarico, of Nutley, began lining up Thursday night. Dozens Line Up for Technology at Toys "R" Us

Consumers said poor economy is driving earlier openings for holiday shopping.

Dozens of people lined up outside Toys "R" Us Thanksgiving night to get an early start on their holiday shopping. The store opened at 9 p.m.; the line stretched to the back of the building as people waited to take advantage of sales on netbooks and video games hours before midnight on Black Friday. Kelly Caltabilotta, the first person in line, showed up at 6 p.m. "I'm just hanging out," Caltabilotta said as she sent a text. "We've eaten already and the family is home."
