Students Make Bird Feeders, Clean Up School for Earth Day

A.P. Terhune students learn about sustainability, taking care of the planet.

The students and staff and A.P. Terhune Elementary School celebrated Earth Day on Friday. Students in each grade participated in “green activities”: they made compost, planted flowers and sunflower seeds, cleaned the school grounds, and made bird feeders. They also made terrariums, small self-contained gardens that help illustrate how ecosystems work. “We want to awaken our students’ awareness regarding the protection and further development of a ‘going green’ attitude for our planet,” said Principal Marion McGrath. “The day’s focus reinforces our school district’s program where the primary goal is to immerse our children in environmental education.” — Have a question or news tip?
