Board of Education Trustees to be Sworn in This Week

Teens can see how a pizza is hand tossed at a special presentation at the library Thursday.

Here is a look at some of the things going on in Wayne this week.

  • The three Board of Education trustees who were re-elected to new three-year terms will be sworn at the Board's first regular meeting of 2014 Thursday. The meeting was scheduled for Jan. 2 but was cancelled due to the snowstorm.
Incumbents Mitchell Badiner, Alan Mordkoff, and Robert Ceberio defeated Christian Smith, the lone challenger, in November.
Trustee-elect Cathy Kazan was slated to be sworn in to a one-year term but a mix up with her fingerprints for a background check has caused her swearing in to be delayed. She was slated to be sworn in jan. 2. Her fingerprints will be retaken Jan. 7. It is unknown if they will be processed in time for her to be sworn in Thursday.
  • Two Mommy and Me classes will be held at the Fun Creation ceramic paint studio on Mountainview Boulevard today and Wednesday. The classes are designed to developing a child's confidence through art. Cost is $12 per child. Adults may paint for an extra charge. Classes are for children 2 to 4 years olds. Click here for more information.
  • A support group for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. The group is designed to help caregivers learn practical information, get mutual support, learn about community resources and find solutions to challenging behaviors. 973-942-5600 or email wayne@arden-courts.com to RSVP or for more information.
  • Teenagers can learn about the history of pizza and get a demonstration of how to hand toss one at a special workshop on the library Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. A chef from California Pizza Kitchen will present the demonstration. Kids can eat pizza and have beverages after the presentation. For more information, or to register, call the library at 973-694-4272.
