QB Olsen Doing 'Pretty Well' at Miami

Former Wayne Hills star takes field for Hurricanes.

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Kevin Olsen says adjusting to Division I collegiate football is challenging.

Olsen, the former star quarterback at Wayne Hills High School, starting practicing with the team earlier this month.

"I think I’m doing pretty good. It’s tough because it’s a whole new offense. There is a lot more stuff to be aware of before the ball is snapped – what the coverage is, where the protection is, things like that," Olsen told scout.com. "I feel like I can do even better than I’m doing right now."

Olsen's older brother Greg, a tight end with the NFL"s Carolina Panthers, also attended Miami.

"It’s awesome. Just to think back 10 years ago, I was around here throwing the ball around and looking up to my brother and all those guys and to think wow, I’m now back here at Miami," Olsen told the website.

Olsen said the speed of college football is something he's had to get used to.
"It’s amazing how fast some of these guys are. Guys who I thought were fast in high school are slow compare to some of these guys," Olsen said.

"I’m getting better and better at understanding the signals, the play calls, and the offense."

Olsen ended his season with Wayne Hills with a loss in the second round of the state group tournament. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident in May after he crashed the SUV he was driving into a tree and a parked car. Witnesses said Olsen appeared to be "under the influence of something."

A video of Olsen running drills with receivers at a recent practice has been attached to this article. Olsen is wearing number 19.
