Olsen Named An Elite Quarterback At Camp

Wayne Hills signal caller finished 10th at the annual Elite 11 camp for high school quarterbacks. Olsen will help his father defend the team's state championship this upcoming season.

Now it’s official: Kevin Olsen is an elite quarterback.

The 6-foot-2 signal caller was named one of the top 11 quarterbacks in the country at the Elite 11 quarterback camp. Olsen was one of 25 nationally-ranked high school quarterbacks to participate in the finals.

The final episode chronicling his experiences in the five-day long camp was shown on ESPN Tuesday night.

Trent Dilfer, a Super Bowl-winning quarterback and NFL analyst for ESPN, ran the camp.

The first 10 names were called. After letting the tension build, Olsen’s name was the last one called.

“When coach Dilfer called my name as the last guy, I felt that all my hard work, the late nights and the early mornings, finally paid off,” Olsen said.

Olsen failed to crack the top 11 during the first few days of camp. Some of the coaches questioned his decision-making. But he shined brightest when it mattered most: during the red zone and two-minute drills on the final day, arguably the most difficult tests of the entire camp.

Olsen finished the camp ranked number 10, according to the Elite 11 website.

ESPN has Olsen ranked 65th out of the nation’s top 150 high school players.

Olsen will work with his father and coach Chris this season to . The elder Olsen has won eight state championships.

Olsen to the University of Miami earlier this year. His brother Greg, a tight end with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, attended the university.

“I don’t look at it as trying to look up to Greg’s success,” Olsen said on the broadcast Tuesday. “I’m trying to be my own person.”

The Olsen family, Kevin’s decision on where to play college football, and the the team last season, The film debuts on MSG Varsity Sept. 4.
