High School to Partner with Notre Dame for Leadership Program

Play Like a Champion program designed to help student athletes.

DePaul Catholic High School is investing in its athletes this season both on and off the field.

The school will institute The Play Like a Champion program, a leadership development initiative developed by The University of Notre Dame. The program teaches athletes, including team captains, how to succeed on and off the field.

Notre Dame developed the program in 2006. Since then, more than 1 million student-athletes have participated in it.

Athletic Director Joe Lennon was introduced to the program in June at a conference at Notre Dame.

“From social media questions, to educating team captains on their roles, discussing best practices in developing positive relationships with parents, and developing teams as moral communities, we covered it all,” Lennon said in a statement. “This program will enhance the champion culture that already exists at DePaul Catholic.”

A coaches clinic and a parents workshop will be held at DePaul later this month. Kristin Sheehan, a Notre Dame alumnus and co-developer of the program will speak at them.
