WPU's College Radio Day Goes Global
Event designed to give university and community radio stations from across the world the chance to highlight the important role they play in communicating with others.
A local radio station is partnering with more than 500 other stations from colleges and high schools across the country and the world to host the second annual College Radio Day on Tuesday.
William Paterson University’s WPSC 88.7 hosted the first College Radio Day last year. The 24-hour event is designed to highlight and celebrate the unique programs featured on student-led radio stations. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about how stations throughout the world program and run their stations.
Stattions from Italy, Latin America, and the United Kingdom are scheduled to participate.

Stations are scheduled to showcase their best programs and shows.
“We are starting a global marathon that has never been done before,” said Rob Quicke, WPSC’s general manager in a statement. “What makes this so special is that, for the first time, students from around the world will be able to connect with each other and hear how other cultures produce student radio. Nothing like this has ever happened before.”

Quicke could not be reached for further comment.
The event is also designed to convince people to tune in to their local student-run station to learn on a regular basis and highlight their importance to a community.
Quicke conceived and organized the event last year. He hopes it will help counter the growing trend of college stations selling their broadcast licenses, which are often worth millions of dollars.
A recorded message from Chris Martin of Coldplay will officially kick the broadcast off. In addition to live music and special programs, WPSC will interview personnel from participating stations.
The innagural College Radio Day album will be released. Proceeds from the event will be donated to cash-strapped college radio stations.
