Students Receive Awards For Artistic Creations

Middle school students take first and second place in annual state-sponroed art contest. Entries placed into calendar and displayed in statehouse.

Two Wayne students were honored for their artistic ability earlier this month.

Heather Heimbach and Christine Ham came in first and second place, respectively in the annual Teen Media Contest. Heimbach received first place in the middle school category, Han received second place. The students attend .

The contest is sponsored by the state Department of Human Services. Now in its 17th year, the contest uses the topic of parenting to engage teenagers in creative thinking through art. Students create original artwork in their medium of choice to conceptualize the department’s ongoing outreach campaign of “Child Support: It’s More Than Just Money.”  Participants had to depict a unique quality that they saw in their parents and hope to pass on to their children.

Winners were selected on their interpretation of the theme. The winning selections are complied into a calendar the department distributed annually.

Heimbach and Ham each received a U.S. Savings Bond, commemorative plaque, and a pair of day passes to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson.
