Students Preparing for 'Beauty and the Beast' this Weekend

Three months of work will come alive on stage at Wayne Hills High School.

The Wayne Hills High School Theater Workshop wants you to be their guest this weekend.

The group of dedicated students will perform “Beauty and the Beast” on stage this weekend for the school’s annual musical.

“This performance really gives us a chance to showcase everyone’s talents,” said Barbara Castania, co-director of the production. “It’s such a popular show, there’s lots of singing and dancing and everyone is familiar with it already.”

The crew of 60 has been working on the performance for three months. Students helped paint and construct the scenery. Others are helping with the sound and lighting.

“There are kids who might not have a connection to the theater, but that’s okay, we still want to use their talents and be a part of this,” said Erin Gilgur, the other co-director. “They learn so much throughout the production process.”

Eddie Easse plays the Beast. He said his character is a complex one to play.

“It’s like he’s torn between who he was before he was transformed and who he is now,” Easse said. “He made a childish mistake when he was younger and now he’s trying to fix it.”

Sarah Boughton plays Belle and Matthew Conrado plays Gaston, the play’s antagonist.

“People are excited about the production because they’re already familiar with it,” Boughton said.

Castania and Gilgur said watching the group take ownership of the production has been amazing.

“They’re all so talented and they’ve worked so hard,” Castania said.

Performances are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 7 p.m. There will be a matinee performance Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door and cost $12. Tickets are available one hour before each performance.
