Students Honored for Musical Achievements

Twenty-six students from the district's two high schools and Schuyler-Colfax and Anthony Wayne Middle Schools were honored at the board of education's meeting Thursday night.

A few students demonstrated their musical ability with brief performances. Samantha Gana, who was accompanied by Ed Easse on the piano, sang. Samir Egusquiza also performed.

Matthew Paterno, the district's music department liaison, said that teachers and district officials are sure [the students] will duplicate their music successfully at the next level.

"It takes three things to succeed: head, heart, and talent and these kids have all three," Paterno said. "These kids are representative of the numbers and quality of of music students we have in the Wayne Public School District."

The students were honored as part of Gifted and Talented Children's Month.

Schuyler-Colfz Middle School

James Lee, Kalliopi Logothetis, and Dan Chen were named to the North Jersey Junior Area Band. Justin Grisanti was named to the New Jersey Junior Region I Orchestra.

Anna Lauren Bock and Victoria Mazza were named to the North Jersey Junior Regional Women's Choir.

Anthony Wayne Middle School

Amanda Stadler is a member of the North Jersey Junior High Region I Treble Chorus.

Wayne Valley High School

Joel Karseval is a member of the Tournament of Bands All-Star Marching Band. Annemarie Chen and Egusquiza are members of the North Jersey Area Band. Daniel Giannone was named to the American Music Abroad's Summer Tour.

Jennifer Middleton and Susanne Ottomanelli were named to the North Jersey Region I Mixed Chorus and the North Jersey Junior High Region I Mixed Chorus, respectively.

Wayne Hills High School

Rachael Fikslin and Dana Poalillo were named to the North Jersey Regional Women's Chorus. Nicholas Bushey and Sheila Solomon were named to the North Jersey Regional Mixed Chorus. Ganz was named to the New Jersey All State Women's Chorus.

Eric Chen was named to the North Jersey Area Band and the New Jersey Region I Band and the New Jersey Region I Band. Stephen Carney and Kristen Olivieri were named to the North Jersey Area Band. Erin Crowley, Amy Fitzgerald, and Jamie Costantino were named to the American Music Abroad Summer Tour. William Jeon was named to the North Jersey Region I Junior Band.

Seo Hyeon Park was named to the North Jersey Junior Area Band.
