Several District Supervisor Positions May Be Cut Thursday

Board of Education expected to vote on superintendent's recommendation to eliminate supervisors of special services, health services, curriculum and instruction, and others at a meeting.

The Board of Education could eliminate several district supervisor positions at a meeting Thursday.

According to the agenda, Superintendent Ray Gonzalez recommended the proposed reduction in force based on “reasons of economy and change in the administrative and supervisory organization of the district for the 2013-14 school [year].”

The following positions could be eliminated:

  • Supervisor of special services
  • Supervisor of special programs
  • Pre-K-to-12th-grade guidance supervisor
  • Supervisor of health services
  • Supervisor of health/physical education
  • All supervisors of curriculum and instruction
  • All supervisors of middle School guidance

The agenda for the meeting states that the positions would be eliminated effective June 30 for the 2013-14 school year.

Gonzalez is slated to give a report regarding an administrative restructuring plan at the beginning of the meeting.

Gonzalez could not be reached for comment.

Sean Spiller, president of the Wayne Education Association, the local teachers union, did not immediately return a message for comment Tuesday afternoon.

The meeting will be held in the council chamber at the municipal complex beginning at 7:30 p.m. It will be broadcast on cable channel 77 and online.
