School Parking Lots, Walkways will be Resurfaced and Paved

School board approves shared services agreement with township.

Repaving and resurfacing work will be done this summer at the Wayne School District’s high schools and three elementary schools as part of a shared services agreement with the township.

The agreement is expected to save taxpayers money, although it could not be determined exactly how much; the township has not awarded the winning bid yet. The project is estimated to cost the district between $90,000 and $120,000. Township officials could not confirm how much their part of the project will cost or what work will be completed per their part of the agreement.

The Board of Education approved the agreement at its June 23 meeting.

The sidewalk near the entrance at Pines Lake Elementary School will be milled and resurfaced. The asphalt footpath along the side of the building will be widened.

Asphalt will replace the grass area between the sidewalk and street curb at Theunis Dey Elementary School.

Part of the parking lot at John F. Kennedy Elemetnary School will be milled, resurfaced and repaved.

“This work will improve students’ safety,” Maso said. “It is being done for their benefit.”
