President Obama Awards Teacher from Wayne

Leonia Middle School teacher was recently recognized as the state's Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching recipient.

A Leonia Middle School teacher from Wayne received a teaching excellence award from President Obama in March, NorthJersey.com reported on Thursday.

According to the report, Jeannette Spanedda Scillieri was recently honored with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching for her work in elementary science.

According to the PAEMST website, Scillieri has been teaching science for 12 years, and was acknowledged for emphasizing project-based learning, and for implementing an environmental technology program in her school.

Scillieri said on the site she was “extremely honored” to receive the award. “With unwavering dedication, perseverance, and passion, teachers have the ability to inspire, guide, and impact our nation’s future. I am thrilled to be counted among those outstanding educators who share and uphold that privilege and responsibility.”
