Middle Schoolers' Fundraiser Helps Sandy Victims

Students at Schuyler-Colfax Middle School collect school supplies and toiletries for their 'Restore the Shore' fundraiser.

Students from Schuyler-Colfax Middle School took action to assist South Jersey residents who are still recovering from Hurricane Sandy.

From Nov. 12 through 16, students ran a “Restore the Shore” collection drive. They collected thousands of school supplies and toiletries to help three elementary schools in Long Beach Island and a church helping residents in the Lakewood and Point Pleasant communities.

Guidance Counselor Karen Gorman and Aly Lio, a speech/language specialist ran the fundraiser. The pair used the fundraiser to teach students about being good citizens and giving back to their community.
