Interim Superintendent Signs Another Six-Month Contract

Michael Roth will be paid $650 a day.

Michael Roth has signed another six-month contract to continue as the school district’s interim superintendent.

The contract states Roth will be paid at the same rate — $650 a day — as the first contract he with the district that went into effect Jan. 1. That contract expired June 30.

Roth is the third interim superintendent to lead the district since 2009, after John Sico Jr. retired after serving just nine months of his 3 1/2-year contract.

Roth can serve a maximum of two years as the interim superintendent.

Roth said he may leave and receive no further money from the district if the Board of Education finds a permanent superintendent before the contract expires. He will receive no severance package upon leaving.

The Board of Education West Hudson Associates, a consulting firm, to assist in the search for a permanent superintendent. William Librera, West Hudson’s executive director, will search for and interview candidates. Librera will refer viable candidates to the Board of Education.

West Hudson will be paid $12,000 for its services.

Librera the qualities he said the new superintendent must possess at a board meeting in June. The person must have: a proven track record in dealing with complex organizations, the ability to effectively form interpersonal relationships, communicate well with others and possess excellent management skills.

The person also needs to collaborate with district officials and residents in order to sustain a vision for continuously improving the district, Librera said.
