Fox Sports Broadcaster to Give Wayne School's Commencement Address

Kevin Burkhardt will speak at William Paterson's May ceremony.

A Fox Sports and SNY broadcaster will be the special keynote speaker at William Paterson University’s 2014 Commencement, the school recently announced on its website.

According to the announcement, Kevin Burkhardt, a play-by-play football announcer and a 1997 graduate of the Wayne college, will give the commencement address at the May 14 ceremony.

The post gave the following background info on the broadcaster: Burkhardt joined Fox Sports in 2013 as one of the play-by-play announcers for The NFL on Fox.  He has also been the field reporter for the New York Mets on SportsNet New York (SNY) since 2007.  Prior to joining SNY, Burkhardt covered all sports for WFAN-Radio since 2003, emerging as one of the station's rising stars.  He previously reported for Time Warner Cable and worked as an afternoon sports anchor at WCBS-AM 880 Radio.  A 1997 graduate of William Paterson, he started his broadcasting career on campus, covering Pioneer athletic events for the campus television channel.

William Paterson’s graduation ceremony is also set to honor famed local jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli with an honorary doctor of fine arts degree.

The graduation ceremony is happening at the Izod Center in East Rutherford.
