Former Student to Speak About Empowering Youth with Disabilities

Scott Robertson, a former resident, co-founded the Autistic Self Advocacy Network.

Scott Robertson will speak about empowering young adults with disabiliites at the from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9.

Robertson, 31, is autistic and a national disability rights advocate. He grew up in Wayne and attended Wayne public schools before transferring to a private school due to bullying and ostracism.

Robertson is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in computer science. He earned a master's degree in human-computer interaction from Carnegie Melon University. He is currently a doctoral student at Pennsylvania State University where he help found a support group for autistic students.

Robertson has presented keynote addresses and lectures at national conferences and universities.

The Special Parents Association of the Wayne Council of Parent Teacher Organizations is sponsoring the event.
