New Superintendent For DePaul Catholic

Newest education leader of Diocese of Paterson appointed. Will oversee 36 Roman Catholic elementary and secondary institutions.

Rev. William Dygert is the new superintendent of schools for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson, which includes .

DePaul is a co-educational, college preparatory high school with an enrollment of approximately 800 students.

In addition to DePaul, Dygert will oversee 35 other schools in Morris, Passaic, and Sussex Counties, including Morris Catholic High School in Denville and Pope John XXIII Regional High School in Sparta.

Dygert was previously superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Peoria, Ill. He replaces Rev. John Eriksen, who left the post this past summer to pursue other initiatives in parochial education.

“Catholic schools needs to continually reinvent themselves,” Dygert said in a statement. “We need to focus on what is needed in the 21st Century for our kids to be lifelong learners in a global society.”

A 26-member search committee unanimously selected Dygert.

Dygert previously held superintendent positions in Rhode Island and Texas. He has taught graduate courses in Catholic school governance at the University of Notre Dame.
