Board will Approve School Budget Wednesday

School taxes are expected to increase $190 for the average homeowner.

The Board of Education will approve the district’s 2013-14 school budget at a special meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The meeting will be held in the council chambers in the municipal building.

The average homeowner’s school taxes are expected to increase $190 this year. The projected tax levy is $131.6 million.

The projected tax impact to residents due to increases in educational services and programs is $129.

Residents and officials have stressed the importance of not cutting things like extracurricular clubs in the high schools.

“We can’t cut any more clubs. We need to make sure we have additional opportunities for our students to learn,” Superintendent Ray Gonzalez previously said. “Students need them to be competitive when they apply to colleges.”

Officials have discussed bringing back school resource officers to the middle schools. The district would fund $256,000, or half, of the cost of brining the officers back. The township would need to fund the other half.  

The meeting will be broadcast on cable channel 77 and online.
