Board to Host Press Conference Friday Regarding Arrest of Football Players

School officials will meet in closed session at 10 a.m., press conference to be held at 1 p.m.

The Wayne Board of Education will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, to discuss the case of nine Wayne Hills football players arrested after a fight with two students from Wayne Valley high school.

"We're going to address the situation that occurred," said board President Donald Pavlak Jr.

The board will meet in closed session beginning at 10 a.m.

Nine Hills football players, including star wide receiver and captain Andrew Monaghan, were Nov. 8 after they, according to police, attacked two students after a party on Urban Club Road on Oct. 29.

The players were allowed to play in the team’s first- and second-round state playoff games at Wayne Hills earlier this month. Roth from participating in the second-round game Nov. 16, but district officials placed a . The board is expected to issue a final ruling on the matter Nov. 29.

Monaghan and fellow senior Joe Lane were invovled with a teacher on Friday, Nov. 18. Lane reportedly blew an air horn into a teacher's eye at a pep rally. The teacher has said she does not believe it was Lane's intention to hurt her.
