Proposed Budget Cuts Could be Discussed at Special Meeting

Meeting will be held at George Washington Middle School March 26.

The Wayne Board of Education will host a special meeting to discuss the proposed 2012-2013 school district's budget.

The meeting will take place at George Washington Middle School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 26. The board could discuss $4.1 million in proposed cuts to the budget at the meeting. Action may be taken. The cuts are necessary if the tax levy is to be within a state-mandated 2 percent increase cap.

The board will hold another public hearing on the budget at on Tuesday, March 20. That meeting begins at 7 p.m. One was already held at Wayne Valley High School earlier this month.

"We're giving as much tax relief as we can," said board President Donald Pavlak Jr.

The school portion of the average homeowner's taxes . District officials are still working on the budget. The board will vote on the final budget at a meeting March 29.

The proposed increase, which includes $174 for the tax levy and $181 for the debt service portion of the budget, would raise the school portion of the average homeowner's tax bill from $5,402 to $5,757.
