Board of Education Accepting Applications to Fill Vacant Seat

Replacement needed for Franco Mazzei, who was elected to the Municipal Council in November.

The is accepting applications to fill a seat vacated by Franco Mazzei.

Mazzei was on the in November. He replaced 3rd Ward Councilman Gerard Porter, who after approximately 20 years of service.

State law prohibits individuals from concurrently serving on municipal governing bodies and boards of education.

The term will be until the next board election in April.

Individuals who want to become a board trustee must:

  • Be a citizen, live in the school district for one year and be able to read and write.
  • Have no interest in any contract with, or claim against, the board.
  • Be registered to vote in the district and not be disqualified from voting under state law 19:4-1.

Interested individuals need to send a letter of interest and a brief resume to: Junita Petty, business administrator/board secretary, Wayne Board of Education, 50 Nellis Drive, Wayne NJ 07470.

The deadline for receiving letters of interest is Thursday, Jan. 5.

The Board of Education will select the individual. It is the second such appointment the Board will make in less than a year.

In September, the Board to replace trustee James Jimenez. Jimenez was to fill Lawrence Maron's at-large seat on the Council in July.
