Board Keeps Promise, Reappoints Paraprofessionals
Officials originally decided to outsource the positions. The move would have saved the district $300,000 but last-minute lobbying by professionals and parents convinced the board to reverse its decision.
The Board of Education will reappoint one paraprofessional and rescind the appointment of another at a special meeting Tuesday night.
Nexhdete Biba, a paraprofessional at , will be reappointed for the 2012-2013 school year. She will be paid more than $18 an hour.
The board will rescind Beth Gayo's reappointment at Ryerson.

Officials are expected to announce more personnel decisions at its next regular meeting May 17.
The board elected to reappoint 30 paraprofessionals at its April 26 meeting. The board voted to in March at the same meeting it approved the district’s $144 million budget.

Officials originally budgeted to outsource the positions next school year but several individuals spoke out against the move at the meeting. The move would have saved the district $300,000.
The board voted to move $250,000 from the benefits line item to not outsource the positions. An additional $25,000 was moved from the general administration fund.
“This was probably, of all the things that were looked at, the hardest thing to cut,” board President Donald Pavlak Jr. said. “But the board listens to the public and we were able to correct the decision.”
The action on Tuesday is the latest in a series of personal issues that have led to widespread changes in the district.
Four schools will have next year. The principals of George Washington and middle schools, , and will not return in September due to retirements, promotions, and personnel contracts not be renewed.
The district announced that Mary Jane Tierney, principal of George Washington, and Lafayette’s Principal Stella Cosmas are retiring. Wayne Hills principal Scot Beckerman is . Schuyler-Colfax Principal was named interim principal in December 2010. He was vice principal of the school for 12 years.
The board will of Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley High School athletic directors Chris Olsen and Dan Kilday.
Officials are also reorganizing the administrative structure of the district’s athletic, special education, and finance departments.
