Board Hires New Assistant Superintendent

Marysol Berrios is the new assistant superintendent of the Wayne School District.

The approved Berrios’ appointment and contract at a meeting Thursday.

“I believe that I have a lot to offer the Wayne community with the experiences I’ve had,” Berrios said. “I feel that everything I’ve done up to this point gives me a good framework to be able to respond to the kinds of needs that occur in a district such as Wayne.”

Berrios has 24 years of experience in education. She is the special assistant to the superintendent of the Paterson School District. She oversees a variety of programs in the district, including the professional development training for all district administrators.

She has a Master of Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a teaching certificate and Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Montclair State University. She is also certified to teach English as a Second Language. She is currently writing her dissertation for her doctorate degree at Seton Hall University.

Berrios’s tenure will begin as soon as possible, but she said she is anticipating Feb. 6 to be her first day on the job. Her contract expires on June 30. Her annual $160,000 salary will be prorated for that time period.

The move comes only a . Gonzalez called Berrios’s hiring “a great move” for the district.

“In order to move the district forward we have to make sure that we have all the right people in all the right places," Gonzalez said. "This appointment provides me with the confidence that we have all the right people in all the right places."
