The issue to me WayneResident isn't coach Miello. He is a very respected coach and educator. The problem is they should be looking within, not going outside the district. I believe there are very qualified candidates in Wayne. If you want to keep moral up hiring outside the district isn't the answer.

Racist, much?
Al Scala June 13, 2012 at 05:00 PM
Joseph....did read the article which was prepared by the PR firm no doubt. I will believe it when I see it!
Al Scala June 13, 2012 at 05:27 PM
Wayne Mom......I believe that Mike is coming out of retirement to take this position. He may have been still employed at Hackensack, although I think I heard or read somewhere he had retired. What tips me off to this is that benefits is allegedly not included. He has benefits for life, once he retires. For all we know, Mike may be collecting his pension, (which May be at or above 6 figures), collecting SS,( which he is certainly entitled to), as well as drawing this 128k salary. If that is the case, he is a very lucky man. These times are difficult for many and he is very fortunate to be doing so well. Heck, I'm envious. However, if that be the case, he has certainly put his time in and is entitled to it.

I don't necessarily disagree w/ you Michael. I am a firm believer in looking within first and if there is someone as qualified, or better qualified, than Mr. Miello (or anyone else for that mtter), then we absolutely shoujld be looking at them as first choice for hire. I'm uncertain what other candidates are available in the district currently or who might have indicated an interest in the position. My comments were directed more toward the people who immediately jumped all over the fact that Coach Miello had spent time working in Hackensack thus he must immediately be under consideration because of that fact alone vs the fact that he is VERY qualified and could bring good things to Wayne.

Personally Scondo, I dont care if he continues the winning football tradition at Hills or not. While it's nice to have a winning team, and it's certainly something to be very proud of, I personally won't lose sleep if Hills comes in 1st...or last...next year.

Joe I appreciate your opinion but you should always look within first. You don't weaken by moving people up. Bringing in outsiders can cause unnecessary anymosity. If we need to go outside because there are no qualified candidates then that's a different story. Though if I were the Superintendent I would steer away from former colleagues. It just doesn't send the right message to the taxpayers, students and teachers.

Way out of line Joe.

I thought the same thing while reading this article! The whole point of an Athletic Director after Olsen and the BOE's debacle of the recent past involving the arrests of the Hills fb players was to get someone with morals. Great, Miello is a legend. But can he keep a clear head and do what is right?
Dory Degen June 14, 2012 at 01:36 AM
Another great point. Why does the AD need to be a football legend?
Dory Degen June 14, 2012 at 01:38 AM
blink. wha,... what? Having 2 AD's worked out fine all these years? Someone please fill this man in!
Dory Degen June 14, 2012 at 01:40 AM
He should have been hired to keep them honest. Not to tote a fancy football history.
Dory Degen June 14, 2012 at 01:41 AM
Agreed x 100
Dory Degen June 14, 2012 at 01:42 AM
We will see.
Al Scala June 14, 2012 at 01:51 AM
Gee Dory, if that's your real name, as far as I'm concerned, the model of one AD in each high school worked fine all these years. What town have you been living in?

How does a RETIRED NJ teacher take a salaried position and continue to draw upon his retirement? I know the state is ripe with politicians and police that refine the practice, but does the law allow for teachers to do the same? Or perhaps is this going to be an "Old School" Wayne per diem hire? Politics as usual for this group. Hire a football coach to oversee all athletic programs in the district. And this is different than what we have because????
Parker June 14, 2012 at 02:27 AM
Bubba-maybe you should get more familiar with the district happenings. There have been various internal promotions within the last 6 months and from what I understand potentially more on the horizon. To expect all internal movement in unrealistic and unhealthy.
Nose Wayne June 14, 2012 at 02:27 AM
ALL, I will stop all this bickering NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read between the lines,as I said at 8:17 this morning BOARD- BRING ON ALL RAYS DIRECTORS!!!! If we can't find with all these EDUCATED people to fill this position within the district,WHY DID WE HIRE THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE ?
Dory Degen June 14, 2012 at 02:44 AM
They aren't concerned with the right message. Apparently just hiring their cronies.
Michael L Bubba June 14, 2012 at 01:21 PM
It is unhealthy when every outside hire is connected to the Superintendent.
Concerned Taxpayer June 14, 2012 at 03:26 PM
Athletic operations at the middle schools is probably charging the local sports groups for using school fields. You know to pay the OT for the janitors that are already there 24-7. Just a question, does the Wayne Valley softball team pay the town for using Barbour Pond?
Kichley209 June 14, 2012 at 06:26 PM
Have some foresight Michael L Bubba. If they hired the Super AD internally, one side of town would feel like there was a home field advantage depending on where the internal person came from. I think the idea was to bring in a seasoned neutral person that could move the district forward.
Michael L Bubba June 14, 2012 at 07:21 PM
Kichley209 you are missing the point, this position isn't the only one I question. It seems that every name from the outside that is brought up has a connection to the superintendent. It started with the assistant superintendent. WIth the athletic director I disagree with you. You have no idea how someone from the outside is going to be. The person hiring him could guide his loyalty to one school or the other. Or maybe the incoming person has a personal relationship with someone in a particular school? I have the foresight to see all the possibilities and not just thinking that someone from the outside is the only solution.

Anyone that is going to the board of Ed meeting tonight take a look at agenda item H12-01. Very intresting!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pad June 14, 2012 at 10:22 PM
Gonzalez is bringing in all his friends. The Law Firm just has the contract in Hackensack, Miello is also from Hackensack, Berios from Paterson. What doesn't this BOE see? The Wayne District is sinking faster then the Titanic with these people at the helm. Vote them out each November until the entire board is replaced. It seems all the personel in the Wayne School District isn't qualified to lead here in Wayne. Even VPs are being passed over in favor of outsiders. What a stabbing in the back they are getting after devoting a lifetime of service to Wayne. In a few years this district will be a disaster waiting to happen. Moral of the teaching staff will be at an all time low.
Rex miatke June 15, 2012 at 12:01 AM
Board of Ed meeting is not on 77????
Pad June 15, 2012 at 12:56 AM
Maybe instead of a closed door meeting they are holding a closed TV meeting! Imsure you will see it after all is said & done.
Al Scala June 15, 2012 at 01:54 AM
Rex....meeting held at Nellis Drive. Not televised.
Nose Wayne June 15, 2012 at 02:09 AM
They are holding the meeting at the administration building that will not be on television. So much for public input. Hey Pad, closed door, try to get inside ? Wait to see these deals done behind CLOSED DOORS!!
Rex miatke June 15, 2012 at 04:30 PM
I am so confused. I thought it was a regular meeting. Glad I didn't drive down. Was it always set to be closed door at Nellis???
