Arts Students Will Showcase Talent at Annual Event
Wayne Evening with the Arts gives students the chance to demonstrate their musical and artistic talents.
Dozens of musicians and artists will have the opportunity to showcase their talents at the annual Wayne Evening with the Arts.
The annual event will feature elementary-, middle-, and high school-aged artists performing in groups and by themselves. Various ensembles, dues, trios, and other musical groupings have been featured at previous events.
Painters also are given the opportunity to demonstrate their talents.

It will be the eighth time the event is held. The Wayne Hills High School Tri-M honor society has organized the event for the past four years.
"A lot of people in Wayne don't necessarily get a chance to see the musical programs from the various schools," said Thomas Mattera, president of Tri-M. "This gives them a chance to see everything that Wayne has to offer."

Students from the various music programs in the district give brief performances. Usually, they are not more than 15 minutes long, giving attendees the chance to see multiple acts throughout the event. Performances are staggered against each other.
A trio of wind instruments may perform in one room while the Winterguard performs in the gymnasium.
Musicians often form special groups specifically for the annual event.
Students said the event not only gives them a chance to showcase their abilities, but allows the community to see the unifying power that music can, and does, have.
"Music brings people together," said Kerry Kurpick, secretary of Tri-M. "It's a different language and I just love the way it brings people together."
The event raises money for the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, a non-profit that donates musical instruments to needy school districts. About $3,000 has been donated in the past few years.
Evening with the Arts will be held at Wayne Hills on March 12. Doors open at 6:45, performance will begin at 7 p.m.
