Alyssa LaGuarida Will Attend Yale University

DePaul Catholic senior has a 4.5 grade point average.

Alyssa LaGuardia’s favorite subject is one that a lot of other students struggle with.

“I like math. I like the challenge,” LaGuardia said. “Problem solving and critical thinking, those are the aspects of math I really enjoy. I like the challenge.”

LaGuardia, a Wayne resident, is a senior at De Paul Catholic High School. She has nearly a 4.5 grade point average and is a member of the cross-country and spring and winter track teams.
LaGuardia has been involved in student government and is a member of the National Honor Society. She will attend Yale University, where she will run cross-country and track.

Athletics, she said, has played an important part in her academic success.

“With running, you run and you go out and do it for yourself. You’re always running against yourself and it is the same with academics,” LaGuardia said. “The discipline that’s involved is the same. You study and work hard for yourself and no one else. To keep myself motivated, I put the same amount of energy into athletics as I do my academics. It helps me to stay focused.”
