Dear residents-of-Wayne,   Mayor Invites VOAD Volunteers to October 5 Town Council Meeting   On Wednesday, October 5, Mayor Vergano will pay tribute to the volunteers who helped coordinate a township-wide response to the devastation left behind by Hurricane Irene. If you were a volunteer during the response to this disaster, please come to the Council Chambers at Town Hall for the 8:00pm meeting when the Mayor and Council members will recognize the volunteers' efforts in the relief and recovery operation.   Sign Up to Receive Our Newsletter

Wayne VOAD would like to develop an e-mail distribution list so we can communicate with township residents who want to be informed about our ongoing relief and recovery operations. If you would like to be on our list, please send your full name and e-mail address to WayneVOAD@gmail.com. Thank you for being part of our community response.   Help Get the VOAD Organized   The Wayne VOAD is in the process of putting together a formal structure for organizing our ongoing activities as well as a disaster plan for future implementation. We are looking for individuals interested in helping out in the following areas:

Technology - help us set up a web site and figure out the best way to use technological tools to further our mission and goals

Communication - help us set up the best methods for communicating with our residents, volunteers and supporters

Facilities management - help us identify locations to be used for future operations such as supplies distribution, hot meals delivery and long-term storage

Resources - help us identify service organizations that can provide supplies and volunteers for future operations

If you would be interested helping out in any of these areas, please e-mail your name and phone number to WayneVOAD@gmail.com.   VOAD Donations Very Strong   The community has been very generous in response to Hurricane Irene. To date, more than $16,000 has been donated in cash and another $16,000 has been donated in the form of gift cards. In addition, the Civic Center gymnasium was filled to overflowing with cleaning supplies and non-perishable food. Wayne VOAD also distributed over 300 backpacks filled with school supplies plus a room full of donated toys.

To make a donation, please mail a check payable to "The Wayne Interfaith Network" and mail it to: Rev. Karyn Ratcliffe, Chair of Wayne VOAD, Packanack Community Church, 120 Lake Drive East, Wayne, NJ 07470. Checks and gift cards can be dropped off on Monday through Thursday, 9am - 2pm. All donations will be used to help those impacted by the flood.

At this time, Wayne VOAD has ceased collecting all items while we assess the community's needs. If you are a business or organization that is conducting a collection to help those who have been flooded, please make sure you have contacted an agency that is willing to receive your collected items, as most organizations have been inundated with donations and aren't accepting any more.   Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help our neighbors-in-need in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Please watch for more information coming out later this week about our ongoing activities and the process of long-term recovery. Thank you for being a part of our community response!!
