Community Helping Their Neighbors

Hi Everyone,  Just got this email from Lonni Miller Ryan.  Thank you to everyone that has helped out! Ruby

Dinners for those in need will start tonight at Preakness Reformed Church, 131 Church Lane from 6-8 PM. Many thanks to that wonderful congregation for organizing these on-going meals. I will post direct volunteer contact info for the meals later this morning. In the meantime, if you would like to help cook, serve, or deliver meals, please comment on the Wayne VOAD page. We will also look for volunteers to help students with homework at the dinners and help residents fill out paperwork. Thank you to the groups already signed up to cook and serve.

Donations that we still need include the following items:
non-perishable food items for the food bank, gift cards, new underwear and socks, new clothes with tags, cleaning supplies (including buckets, bleach, gloves, brooms, mops, sponges, etc), plastic bins, face masks, and large tupperware containers.

To date we have filled over 200 backpacks for kids in all the elementary, middle, and high schools our kids in need attend. They will be distributed to the schools this morning. Wayne Valley high school has not yet put out their lists yet, so we will put together those supplies today, once we receive the lists.

School Supplies Coordinator Mary Beth Dring will provide us with an update on what we still need for the kids' supplies.

We are looking good with elementary school supplies, but still need more for the middle and high school kids.

This may be incomplete, but as of last night, we still need the following items:
-- back packs for junior school students;
-- drawstring bags for high school students;
-- combination locks;
-- dictionaries and thesauruses;
-- protractors;
-- calculators;
-- 1- 1 1/2 in. binders; -- healthy snacks; and gift cards.

Thanks for posting this Ruby.
