Request from Wayne VOAD

Dear residents of Wayne,

As our Hot Meals Delivery Operation has taken off this past week, the number of residents who are beginning to rely upon us for an evening meal is growing exponentially. We are feeding hundreds of people who are hungry each night, but we are also in need of more and more assistance.

For tonight, we need: people to donate food, people to pack food, drivers to deliver meals, people knowledgable about where the hungry families are located, and financial contributions to help purchase items that we need. Checks should be made payable to "The Wayne Interfaith Network" and delivered to Laura or Glenn O'Connell at Preakness Reformed Church, 131 Church Lane.

We also need someone to make a rice dish for tonight so that we can feed a family at the shelter. (We will deliver the food.)

We also need people who can transport cleaning supplies from the Civic Center and deliver them to residents-in-need. One central location for doing this would be the Ryerson Ave. volunteer station. But other stations can easily be established. All you need to do is open your vehicle and announce that supplies are available. Knock on a door and ask people what they need. We are residents helping our fellow residents who are in the process of cleaning out their homes today.

Any assistance you can provide over the weekend would be greatly appreciated.

Helping the smallest displaced citizens - toy collection

Ruby - can you please send this to the Wayne people list......thanks

The citizens of Wayne and the Wayne VOAD have worked tirelessly over the last several days to clean up, feed and otherwise help the families affected by the floods. Those efforts are continuing and are now being supplemented with other things that in their own way are equally as important.
It is now time to focus some of our attention on the littlest of the displaced citizens. Therefore, Wayne VOAD is now accepting donations of new or gently used toys and games. These items will be provided to families in the local hotels and/or shelter as well as those that have been able to return to their homes but where the children have lost everything.
Please note the following

  • I'm sorry but we cannot accept stuffed animals due to hygenic concerns.
  • PLEASE check games to make sure that all pieces are there before donating.
  • If batteries are required for the game/toy, please include them so that the family doesn't need to go find some.
  • Note that the children are of all ages -from infants up

All items should be brought to the Civic Center on Hamburg Turnpike. This is a new initiative and those staffing the Civic Center may not yet be aware. Please tell them that they should go in the Girl Scout room with the backpacks.
Thank you once again for your generosity.
